Wills
I strongly encourage you to update your will at the conclusion of your divorce proceeding. Whether you are a single person or happily married, it is important to have updated wills that determine the distribution of your assets, appoint guardians for minor children and identify individuals you have chosen to act as trustees and personal representatives.
Paternity
If you are the unwed father of a child, I can work with you to establish your custodial and parenting time rights through the legal system.
Prenuptial Agreement
Prenuptial agreements are not just for millionaires and movie stars. If you have been married before, have children from a previous relationship or an interest in property you would like to protect in the event of death or divorce, having a prenuptial agreement can save you or your estate time and money.
Prenuptial agreements identify your non-marital estate and can pre-determine your rights and the rights of your spouse in the event of your death or divorce. I urge you to consider preparing a prenuptial agreement at least six months prior to your anticipated nuptials.
Stepparent Adoption
Consider a stepparent adoption to establish the legal relationship between your children and your current spouse where the emotional relationship has already been solidified. Don't overlook the fact that the biological father in most circumstances must provide his consent to the adoption.
